This report about Moshito 07 intends to offer the reader, and particularly our present and potential sponsors, insight into Moshito 07 Music Conference and Exhibition held 22-25 August 2007 at Museum Afrika in Newtown, Johannesburg.
A number of factors would inform the success of Moshito 07. Firstly, and compared to previous years, Moshito 07 saw an 18% increase in delegate representation from provinces other than Gauteng. Secondly, and in addition to four participants from South America, Germany, England and Australia, the African contingent at Moshito 07 reveals the presence of delegates from music industries in Botswana, Kenya, Lesotho, Namibia, Nigeria, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
At the level of structure, the report highlights elements of financial and human resources, conference programming and events, and targeted participants for Moshito 07, before indicating relevant technical and production considerations. With respect to human resources, and separate to the engagement of professionals involved in the music industry and broader creative industries, Moshito 07 provided work experience and earning opportunities for 54 learners registered with Arts and Culture Management and New Venture Creations learning programmes.
In reference to marketing, publicity and communications, the report offers a detailed analysis for sponsors so that they may determine the benefits of investing in Moshito, and ascertain how Moshito reached the public through print, broadcasting and electronic media. In brief, the total media value for Moshito 07 exceeded its R 1.5 million target. A major factor contributing to this achievement is the newly established partnership between Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition and the South African Broadcasting Corporation. In addition, www.moshito.co.za recorded 67 000 webpage impressions during 2007; significantly, 75% of this record occurred during the July – August 2007 period.
At its conclusion, the report documents a list of key recommendations arising from post Moshito 07 discussions, meetings and staff reports. These recommendations factor suggestions presented by visitors and guests to Moshito 07, conference and exhibition participants and the Moshito Board.
Finally, and on behalf of the Board of Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition, I would like to declare that this report, including its annexure, reflects a true account of Moshito 07 to 7 December 2007 and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all participants for their ongoing support.
